FurBall Success

On February 7th our house helped with Whitman County Humane Society and their annual auction. Last year we helped raise $20,000 for them to build a new shelter. This year was even a bigger success and we helped them to raise a net total of $37,000. This money is going straight towards their efforts to build at a new location because the City of Pullman is taking the land at their current location. Both WSU and LCA Nationals have recognized us in their upcoming publications. The Mayor of Pullman Glenn Johnson also recognized our accomplishment:

The Men of Lambda Chi Alpha:
I just wanted to let you know how much all of us appreciated your great work for the Whitman County Humane Society last night at the SEL Event Center.
You guys were awesome! Thanks for being such great representatives of WSU. Thanks and Go Cougs!

We are very excited about the outcome of this year’s event and already planning next year’s auction so that it can go even better.

Centennial Conclave

As you may already be aware, this is the 100th anniversary of Lambda Chi Alpha.  To commemorate this special occasion the national fraternity has decided to host several regional conclaves across the country.  This will lead up to the National Conclave in Indianapolis, where hundreds of brothers from across the country are expected to attend.  There are even rumors of Brother Kenny Chesney attending and possibly even performing at the conclave.
Kicking things off was the Northwest Regional Conclave, hosted by the brothers of LCA Alpha Lambda Zeta at Oregon State. The two members who attended were Andrew “Rusty” Thomas (Tau 1709), Bryce Sherbesman (Tau 1729), and one Associate Member Ikaika Yoshikawa. They made the daunting eight plus hour road trip to Corvallis. They were joined by several brothers from other chapters in the Northwest. Those chapters included: University of Washington, University of Oregon, Oregon State University, University of Nevada Reno, and California Davis. At the conclave the members attended several workshops on how to better run their chapters and even witnessed the reciting of Theta Kappa Nu’s initiation ceremony.  Bryce, Rusty, and Ikaika forged relationships with several members of the various other chapters attending the Northwest Conclave and brought back very useful information for the members of Tau Zeta.

Theta Kappa Nu Ritual Revealed

We merged with Theta Kappa Nu in 1939 because of hardships that the fraternity was having. During the conclave at Oregon State University, three members of Tau Zeta were privileged enough to observe the ritual of Theta Kappa Nu.  It was an exciting event, and gave them more insight to our ritual. While the ritual was not actually performed due to an agreement made during the merger to never again perform the ritual, the ceremony was read and explained thoroughly.  On display were the ritual robes (shown left), equipment, and various other items preserved from the former fraternity.  Those present at the ceremony learned the many secrets of QKN, including their secret handshake.  The ceremony made for a perfect ending to a long, yet interesting day for the members attending the regional conclave.

Tolo Club Meeting

The Tolo club has an upcoming meeting on March 21st in Tukwila, WA. This will be during our spring break so we will have about ten current members attending. This meeting will be full of information about current operations and things that need to happen, such as house maintenance, renovations and current standing. I am looking forward to meeting everyone at the event and discussing the most pressing issues.
A Note from Alum Josh Shupien

Major Sports Management
Ex Alpha and Delta

I am currently employed by the State of Washington in the Department of Corrections as a Recreation Specialist at the Women's Prison in Gig Harbor. I have been employed there for almost two years now. I work in the special needs unit which handles the worst women in the state. Needless to say every day is an adventure. To any alumni out there working in the sports industry who are looking to fill a position please feel free to contact me. I have been volunteering coaching youth football for about ten years now. This last year was my third year as head coach and my 7th grade team went 11-0 and won the city championship in Tacoma and this year will be my last year coaching them as 8th graders and am hoping to Defend the title.

To all the Alumni out there, I made a couple of visits to the house this year and the men over there have made great strides to improve the house. Thanks to all the donations from the Alumni and families of LCA the house got the fire system installed. I am hoping to see the Tolo club meeting on March 21st filled with alumni so we can discuss the future of LCA.

To any alumni out there working in the sports industry I would love to network with you. Feel free to contact me at shupien1626@hotmail.com or at 253-232-7756.

Fire Truck Help

As spring approaches we would like to work on the fire truck as much as possible and restore it. The problem with this is that we still need to figure out a way to remove the rear wheel. It is completely rusted on and will not come loose. We have had the professionals out to help us and they can’t even do it. If anyone knows someone around the area that would be able to help i.e. (farmer) please let us know. We currently have the funds to do this due to earlier fundraisers but can’t get it going. Any help would be much appreciated, please contact Trevor Sodorff (1704) at t.a.sodorff@gmail.com or call (206) 949-8021.
