Lambda Chi's Support Lady Cougs

One might not expect to find much entertainment in attending a women’s basketball game. However this assumption is very wrong when it comes to the WSU women’s basketball team. Earlier this month, the men from Lambda Chi accompanied by the women of Sigma Kappa sorority brought their school spirit to Beasley Coliseum to cheer on the Lady Cougs. This was an excellent to view such an unknown and underappreciated game.

Little did we know what we were in for. The excellent seating from the lack of attendance made the game feel more intimate. The close proximity to the court really allowed us to get into the thrill of the game. Our excitement was aided with the help of none other than Butch T. Cougar, the finest mascot in the state of Washington.
Between quarters we had the pleasure of viewing our fellow brothers in embarrassing fan games much to our delight. We watched as Brother O’Neil narrowly lose the burrito rolling contest and then later witnessed Brother Duckett eke out a victory against Brother Sherting in the shooting contest. All losses were soon forgotten when the free Quiznos and T-shirts were given and dispersed within our section during these breaks.
When we were not watching our inept shooters and Mexican food makers we were praying for a beautiful comeback from our ailing Cougars who were having a difficult time putting away a dangerous Oregon State squad. At times the Beavers led by double digits, but as we all know Cougars never give up. Our lady Cougar would go on to beat the Oregon State Beavers 67-64 in a game that went right down to the wire. This would become the fourth largest comeback in the history of WSU Women’s Basketball.

The game was instrumental in changing the minds and hearts of the men of Lambda Chi Alpha. And from now on our Women’s Basketball team can count on our support for this very underappreciated sport.

Mayor Glenn Johnson Visits Lambda Chi

On Monday evening, Pullman Mayor Glenn Johnson enjoyed dinner at the Lambda Chi house. Johnson is a prominent figure in the WSU and Pullman community. He has served as Pullman’s mayor for the last seven years. Johnson is also a professor in the Edward R. Murrow College of Communication at WSU. Besides teaching and serving as mayor, Johnson is the “Voice of the Cougs,” announcing home football and basketball games.

Johnson spoke to the Tau Zeta membership about the importance of community involvement. As a figure who works with WSU and Pullman, he believes it is crucial that students give back to the Pullman community. He also expressed his gratitude for Lambda Chi’s help with the Furball auction and dinner on Saturday. Finally, Johnson said that the food he had for dinner at the Tau Zeta house was by far the best fraternity food he has eaten.

Johnson’s visit to our house is part of a greater philosophy that Lambda Chi’s share. We believe that by surrounding our membership with role models like Johnson, the brothers of Lambda Chi can learn from their experiences which will aid in their personal development. To carry on this philosophy, Lambda Chi’s are also hosting Pullman councilmen Nathan Weller and Barney Waldrop on Thursday, Feb. 24th. We are very thankful for these individuals that can take time to visit with Lambda Chi’s.

$42,000 Raised at FurBall!

The men of Lambda Chi Alpha have something to be proud of. Last week, Tau Zeta dedicated their time to raise money for the Whitman County Humane Society. For our philanthropy week, six sororities took part in various activities including skits and serenades, competitive games that had pet themes and a man auction where Lambda Chi’s were sold to sororities as dates. We also held a booth at the center of campus that featured puppies from the Humane Society to raise money and awareness for our cause.

The culminating event of our philanthropy was the Furball dinner and auction held on Saturday evening. Lambda Chi’s helped the Whitman County Humane Society host this event. This year, the Furball event brought in more than $42,000 that will be used for the operation budget of the Humane Society. This is the largest sum of money to be raised during Furball. Lambda Chi’s are very happy to have had a role in this successful fundraiser.

Scott Knoben For Senator

The men of Tau Zeta would like to wish Brother Scott Knoben the best of luck as he pursues a position for ASWSU senator. Knoben, a sophomore, currently serves as Lambda Chi's scholarship chair. His goal to obtain a place in the ASWSU senate is an excellent example of how Lambda Chi members are encouraged to be leaders in the community.

Elections will be held March 8th and 9th.

Go get em' Scotty!

Introducing the New Tau Zeta Blog!

Brothers and Friends of Lambda Chi Alpha,

The men of Lambda Chi Alpha have created a blog that will give will provide alumni and others with updates about events and accomplishments pertaining to the Tau Zeta membership. This blog will serve two purposes. The first is to act as a digital collection of the correspondences from the past. Tau Talks that contain information over the previous three years are included on the blog. The second purpose of the blog is to provide a continuous flow of information that will come directly from the various members in the house. This will include recruitment goals, special events, membership updates, community involvement, insight into Tau Zeta’s history, and notable accomplishments.

As we continue to make the Tau Zeta chapter a place of lasting memories where members can personally develop, we want to share this experience with those connected to our chapter.

Please feel free to check up on the Tau Zeta blog:
